Dr. Sonia Khorana’s Guide to Treating KP

What is KP (Keratosis Pilaris)?

“Small, rough bumps appear on the skin, typically on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks, or buttocks. It’s caused by a buildup of keratin, which blocks hair follicles and leads to the formation of tiny plugs (small bumps) and gives your skin the appearance of ‘chicken skin’.”

How your water could be making KP worse

“Hard water contains high levels of calcium and magnesium, which leave a residue on the skin, leading to skin barrier disruption that makes the skin drier and KP flare-ups more likely. Chlorine can also increase dryness and irritation, making symptoms worse.”

The 3-Step Routine Dr. Sonia Recommends

Step 1: Filter out triggers

“The Hello Klean Shower Filter reduces exposure to hard water metals and chlorine, helping maintain the skin’s natural pH and supporting a healthy skin barrier. Addressing water quality first is so important with KP."

Step 2: Gentle exfoliation

“Blank Space contains Salicylic Acid that dissolves keratin plugs, exfoliates, and promotes cell turnover. It’s balanced with the mineral- and chlorine-neutralising Klean Complex™, and anti-inflammatory niacinamide to calm redness.”

Step 3: Strengthen your barrier

“The Cool Down Anti-Buildup Body Lotion is packed with humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid to draw moisture into the skin, centella to calm irritation, and prebiotics to support a healthy microbiome."
