Kennedy, says morning showers can make a big difference for those who have trouble waking up in the morning. She also recommends cool water to avoid rising body temperature dramatically.
Alternating between hot and cold water will also increase blood flow and support your immune system as well as boosting your brain activity. Dr. Shelley Carson, a psychology professor at Harvard, said that because showers lower cortisol levels (and lowers stress), they lead to new and creative ideas.
So, get up, get in the shower, and get creative!
The Case for Evening Showers
If you’re exhausted, feeling a little burned out, evening showers might be the better option. Showering at night helps us rinse away the stress and actually increases our sleep quality. Just make sure to leave 90 minutes between your shower and bedtime. Dr. Kennedy explains, “The body naturally cools down as bedtime approaches, in sync with the circadian rhythm. Showering artificially raises the temperature again and allows for a faster cool down, which seems to hasten sleep.”
